Continuing education

So as many of you know I want to become a makeup artist. Unfortunately, going to school and putting two kids in daycare just isn't going to happen. So...I've been thinking. I love to write. I always have and well that's why I started a blog. Because of my passion for writing I am thinking about taking online courses towards an associates degree in journalism. Between the MYCAA military spouse grant and financial aid I could probably go to school pretty much for free. So, my question to you all is have you attended school online? Have you done it with kids? Any advice?

  1. Well i got honors this year but i didn't take classes online i'm assuming it's alot easier online if you have the motivation to do it on your free time. I know i have to do my homework when fayth is sleeping at night because she doesn't take naps so if i can do it so can you and i did it up till this year on my own. do what you love because if you dont' you will regret it later! my advice is to not take too many classes your first semester to see if you can do it on your own and then go from there. :) good luck!

  2. I took many of my classes for my RN online. I am actually going back to school starting May 26th to get my nurse practioner and it is all online. I have one little bug whom is 13 months. I work nights so I can do a lot of studying at work sometimes. You can do it!!! Many women I work with do it with 2 and 3 children.

  3. I have done both-online and on campus classes. Depending on what is being offered. Because of the university I go to, our semesters are on an advanced schedule. They are 8 weeks long whereas most semesters are 16. So, because of this 2 classes is considered full time. My classes are at night and I go full time, work full time, and have 2 kids. Because of my husband's work, he lives/works out of state and gets to come home about once a month. My advice is to not get behind...which is so easy to do for online classes. I have been bad about waiting until a couple days before an assignment is due to get it done and then I rush and stay up extremely late. So, my advice is to start the assignment the first day and work on it a little bit each day. And for tests-especially if they are timed-make sure you are doing it during a time that you wont' be interrupted...which is hard I know. My kids are 9 and 4 and I would always make sure they had what they needed beforehand. But of course with kids sometimes stuff pops up. And of course the times my husband is home, it's a huge help. So, ask your husband to pitch in while you're doing school work. Good luck!

  4. I totally support cont. ed., but question- I thought they switched over the MYCAA spouse stuff so that we're only able to get $$ for vocational-type certificates and whatnot- no more college degrees. (So make-up, photography, HVAC- yes. Associate, Bachelor's, Master's- no.)

Did it change again? I can't even keep track of this nonsense.

  5. I earned my Associate's degree online and I'm working on my Bachelor's online. It seems really easy, but you have to be disciplined. You have to allot a certain amount of time each day to your school work, otherwise it's a waste of time. I like to work on my classwork when my kids go down for a nap and whatever I don't finish, I work on when they go to bed. :)
