Struggles

There are so many things I've learned in the past couple of years and the most important one is take things as they come. It's amazing how when one not so great thing happen...well many more follow. They always say bad things come in threes and today that is proving true. Today was a rough day. I said goodbye to a girl I have been friends with since Little Miss was only four months old. She is one of my longest friendships at this duty station and I am so sad to see her PCS. I attended a going away lunch for her at Chili's with a lot of other great woman whom I have sort of lost touch with. It was so bittersweet. A rekindling of old friendships and saying goodbye to someone I hold dear to my heart. I am excited for her new adventures but afraid of not seeing her again. I promised myself I would not cry but it was inevitable and the tears poured out. Saying goodbye is always hard for me. I trust very few people and have a hard time letting people in. I don't throw around the word 'friend' losely so when I call someone that it means they are very important to me. Unfortunately saying goodbye is the norm in military life and it's something I'm going to have to learn to cope with.

The second of the bad things was noticed when my husband got home from work. Our water heater busted and began flooding our garage. We tried calling our landlord and going over to his house(he lives next door) but couldn't get a hold of him. I finally got a hold of his wife and she is sending him over. I bathe my kids every other night during the week and every night on weekends as we rarely leave the house during the week and tonight was bath night. Yay for stinky kids!

And no onto bad thing number 3. It's not that bad I guess since I knew it was coming eventually but my husband has to have hip surgery. This means he will be on bed rest for two weeks and on crutches and in physical therapy for four until he goes back to work. It won't be until September as he is heading on a TDY for 15 days to Alaska in a few weeks. Oh, and btw 15 days without my husband with both kids? Ha, it will be loads of fun!

The military life and any life for that matter can be hard sometimes. Things come up we don't expect and we have to just take the bad with good and deal with it. So raise a glass and let's toast to busted water heaters, stinky kids, surgeries, and spending too much time alone! Also, let's toast to having a house with a water heater, beautiful kids, and a husband who works so hard to support our families even if he has to spend time away from his kids! Even in the midst of bad we have true blessings to be thankful for!

  1. I know what you mean Heather! It's one of the hardest things about being a military wife. Your constantly having to say goodbye to people who have been there for you through everything. It makes it extremely hard to build relationships when you know there's eventually going to be a goodbye in the end. I hate it!
I hope you have better days soon!!
